 Play chess on the Internet

1. www.chessclub.com - The Internet Chess Club. This is the best site but it costs $60/yr. Always plenty of players at your level. Play single games or in tournaments at speeds running from 1 minute games to full time limits (40 moves 2 hours and then 60 minutes to complete the game. Serious players need to play at least 1 slow game every week. Free trials are available.

2. www.playchess.com – A playing site developed by ChessBase, a leading manufacturer and distributor of chess-playing programs and databases. Many of the world’s top players play and teach classes (for a fee) on the site. Registered owners of ChessBase software such as Fritz can play free for a year. After that, cost varies according to use.
(Fritz 10, the latest version of the popular chess playing and analysis software, costs about $50 and is considered a must for all serious chess players).

3. www.Yahoo.com , www.MSN.com, and www.Pogo.com offer free play of rated games. Very inflated ratings but who really cares.
